Avant People is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data transparently and responsibly. This policy explains what data this website collects, how it is used, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Every effort has been made to ensure that information is accurate and reflects both good practice and the legal landscape.

Who we are

Avant People is an independent organisational development and people consultancy founded by Hashim Din, Chartered FCIPD, based in Yorkshire, UK. My website is a thought leadership platform, sharing original blogs, content, resources and selected third-party content, always with permission and attribution as required. It also provides information about the ways in which I can support individuals (mentoring and career conversations) and organisations with future-ready people practices.

What data is collected and why

Contact enquiries

When you use my contact form, the website collects your name, email address and the content of your message. This is used this solely to respond to your enquiry. This data is processed on the basis of legitimate interest in responding to business communications or query resolution. Avant People does not add your details are to a contact database or sell them to third parties as a mailing list. All rights are, to the best of our knowledge protected inline with standard practices and terms from WordPress, the system which powers my website.

Comments

If you leave a comment on our site, the website collects the data you provide in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string to assist with spam detection. An anonymised string (hash) derived from your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to display a profile picture alongside your comment where applicable. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. Approved comments and profile pictures are visible publicly in the context of your comment.

Media uploads

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site may be able to download images and extract any location data they contain.

Cookies

This website uses cookies in the following ways:

  • Comment cookies: If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies for your convenience. These last for one year.
  • Session cookies: A temporary cookie is set when you visit the login page to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
  • Login cookies: If you log in, cookies are set to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen option cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends login persistence to two weeks. Login cookies are removed when you log out.
  • Editor cookies: If you edit or publish content, a cookie is saved containing the post ID of the article. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain features on this site.

Embedded content

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images or articles from other websites. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited those websites directly. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content — including if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How data is used

I use the data collected by my website to:

  • Respond to enquiries submitted through our contact form
  • Detect and prevent spam
  • Maintain the security and functionality of the website

I do not use your data for marketing purposes, sell it to third parties, or share it with any party except where necessary to deliver the above purposes or where required by law. In the event of criminal or fraudulent activity, relevant data will be shared with the relevant legal authorities and law enforcement, or where there is a danger to your or someone else’s welfare.

Who your data is shared with

  • Gravatar (Automattic): anonymised email hash for profile picture lookup on comments
  • Spam detection services: visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service
  • Hosting provider: site data is hosted via Hostinger; their privacy policy governs data held at infrastructure level
  • Password reset emails: if you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email

Data is not ordinarily transferred your data outside the UK or EEA except where services such as those listed above are based elsewhere, inline with standard WordPress and Hostinger privacy policies.

How long we retain your data

  • Contact enquiries: retained for as long as necessary to respond and for a reasonable period thereafter for legitimate business purposes
  • Comments: comments and associated metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically
  • User profiles: if you register on this site, personal information in your profile is retained until you request deletion. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except username changes). Website administrators can also access and edit that information.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data that is held about you
  • Rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure of your personal data, subject to any legal obligations that Avant People have to retain it
  • Portability — you can request an export of your personal data in a machine-readable format
  • Restriction of processing in certain circumstances
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests

If you are unsatisfied with how your data is handled, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
